Little Robot Friends creates toys, apps, and teaching materials for introducing kids age 7 and up to the wonderful world of coding and electronics. Our mission is to empower kids to think creatively with technology.

We are a team of designers and makers who are passionate about changing the way our kids learn, making difficult content fun and engaging while being educational.

We are a laid back but highly skilled group that focuses on results and innovation. We are parents and creators and understand that the best work doesn’t always happen tied to your desk - Monday – Friday 9-5.

Full-Time Positions

Javascript / Game Developer

Description:

  • Be the Senior Developer in a 3 person team (CTO, Senior Developer, Junior Developer)
  • Responsible for implementation of our game and interactive environment, following our design directives
  • Responsible for rolling out deliverables (alpha, beta, public version) on targeted platforms (web, iOS, android)
  • Work in harmony with our team
  • Negotiable workload (32-40 hours/week)
  • Salary range $65,000-$70,000
  • 4 weeks vacation

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience with JavaScript (ES2015/ES6) and templating tools such as: Babel, Svelte, Stencil
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, jQuery
  • Understand WebSockets & socketio; WebGL & Three.js
  • Knowledge of major frameworks: React, Angular, Ionic
  • BS in Computer Science or related area, or relevant work experience

It would be a bonus if you:

  • Love video games
  • Have knowledge of Python, C, C++
  • Have knowledge of Arduino/Hardware
  • Experience working with educational content, background in education etc.

Part-Time Positions

Our educators love kids and technologies and are passionate about spreading knowledge! We pay our lead educator $25/hour.


Educator

  • Teach Little Robot Friends workshops and camps (teaching materials provided)
  • Relay feedback on how kids learn and interact with our products, and make suggestions for improvements
  • Hours are flexible: weekend / weekday

Requirements:

  • Experience with teaching kids K-8
  • Know basic electronics, coding with Arduino
  • Familiar with maker culture and STEM education

It would be a bonus if you:

  • Have completed the vulnerable screening sector
  • Have a drivers license

Summer Internships

Our summer internships period is May 1 - August 21. The positions are full time, 30-40 hours per week, and pays $14/hour. This summer (2018), we are looking for two interns:


Community Outreach Coordinator

The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for fostering connections with families and organizations to help promote coding toys, apps, and workshops for kids ages 7-12.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic outreach plans to help spread awareness about our education initiatives
  • Cultivate relationships with key community members and education organizations in the Toronto
  • Write promotional copy for marketing and communication materials
  • Serve as an ambassador for Little Robot Friends when interacting with current or potential partners to help strengthen the company’s brand and presence
  • Record and report progress of outreach initiatives to our GM and other team members
  • Coordinate special events and activities to engage youth in STEAM learning
  • Assist with summer coding workshops and camps dealing directly with kids. This includes supporting the Lead Educator when running activities and maintaining a fun and safe learning environment for all children.

Skill Requirements:

  • Post-secondary student in a field of study such as Marketing & Communication, Advertising, or other related fields
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and sales skills
  • Knowledge of maker culture and STEM education field
  • Skilled with design programs such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop
  • Previous experience coordinating local events and conducting community outreach

Digital Marketing Developer

The Digital Marketing Developer will be responsible for the implementation of online marketing initiatives and social media campaigns to strengthen the company’s brand awareness.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop marketing ideas to run across multiple channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Email and Web
  • Execute ads for Facebook, Instagram, Google etc.
  • Manage our social media editorial calendar
  • Write blog posts and other related content
  • Create landing pages and email newsletters for marketing events, workshops, and camps
  • Maintain social media / digital marketing ad budgets
  • Track the progress and returns of new marketing initiatives

Skill Requirements:

  • Post-secondary student in a field of study such as Web Development, Marketing, New Media, Interactive Media Management, or other related fields.
  • Strong research and communication skills
  • Knowledge of digital / social media marketing principles and practices
  • Familiarity with maker culture and STEM education field
  • Experience with online marketing channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • SEO skills are a plus

Volunteers

Are you interested in being a part of what we do? Are you a student who needs volunteer hours? Throughout the years, we have volunteer opportunities come up now and again, here are some examples:

Educator support: Support the lead educator in our workshops and camps. You’ll be helping kids learn and making sure they’re having a great time.

Production support: Lending a hand in our studio with production, it could be soldering, sorting inventory, packing boxes. We do lots of things in house and can always use a hand!
