Beginning at age 7, kids can start learning how to code even before they can type!
Learning about technology and how things work will increase kid's interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects and set them up for future success.
We believe in the power of learning through play, exploration, and iteration to build a strong foundation. This year we have redesigned our curriculum to deliver the best learning outcomes. For the 2019-2020 school year, we will be offering our Saturday Coding Club year-round.
The LRF Coding Club has 4 levels:
Level 1 - Tinkerer
Level 2 - Coder
Level 3 - Engineer
Level 4 - Inventor
Level 1 - Tinkerer For age 7+ and absolute beginners to coding. Kids will learn some basic electronics with our Cubby Robot and how to program the robot using visual code. Once they master visual coding with Cubby, they will explore Scratch, a popular kid coding platform to create their own animation or video game!
Saturdays 10am - 12pm at LRF HQ 1832 Danforth Ave.
Level 2 - Coder For age 8+ who have already done some coding either with us or through other camps or school. Each week we begin the lesson with touch typing game to improve their typing skills, and then transition from their understanding of block-based visual code from the Tinkerer level to real-world code in C/C++ using the Arduino IDE. Students will be adding Python into their coding knowledge.
Saturdays 1pm - 3pm at LRF HQ 1832 Danforth Ave.
Level 3 - Engineer Now that they know how to really code, we take them a step further by going off-screen to apply code to electronic devices!
For those who have done our Maker Club in the past or finished our Level 2, this Engineer level introduces them to even more possibilities in the world of hobbyist electronics! Besides doing advanced tricks with Cubby robot, they will also get to explore other electronic kits we have tested and given our seal of approval. They will also learn to use a 3D printer, a Cricut machine, and other digital fabrication tools. You'll be amazed at what they bring home.
Saturdays 3:30pm - 5:30pm at LRF HQ 1832 Danforth Ave.
Level 4 - Inventor The world is your oyster! Let's make anything!
Our Inventor class is for kids age 10+ who have extraordinary ideas they want to turn into a real, functioning object. We begin with the design process of sketching and proposing, then prototyping and testing, and finally building, documenting, and presenting their project! This class will combine all the technique and tools kids have learned into making something of their own design.
(coming in January 2020)
How the class works
Pick a level that your child would be comfortable with learning, and they will study at this level for the entire school year, from October to June.
The sessions are divided into 3 terms: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each term is 10 weeks long.
Fall term: October 12 - December 14
Winter term: January 11 - March 14
Spring term: April 18 - June 20
We have design our curriculum based on what we've observed the past two years and we are confident that our materials will keep your kids engaged and learning all year long. Don't think coding and creating is their thing? No problem, there's no obligation to continue after one term.
Each class is 2 hours long and your investment is $34.70 per class.

Q: When will my kid move to the next level?
Just like school, they will move up a level next September. In special circumstances where our educator notice a huge learning leap, we might suggest they move to the next level the following term.
Q: Can we try it out first?
Come to our open house on September 14, 2019 and try out some free activities. More details to come: get on our mailing list and check that you'd like to know about Toronto announcements!
